Peppa Pig, a children's cartoon that has its roots in the UK, started airing in Japan in 2017. It has since grown to the point that it is hosted on most Japanese streaming services, as well as a large volume of children's merchandise being sold for the product.
One large reason behind this is that Peppa Pig allows parents with young children to expose them to native English from a very young age. This is coming at a time where Japan is seeing an astounding level of growth in English material being aimed at the elementary school-aged community, in the form of textbooks, songs and TV programmes.
Japan Voice Talent deals largely with localisation projects, which often includes translation between English and Japanese. Our bilingual staff had the opportunity to work on the subtitles for the upcoming Peppa Pig DVD being released in Japan.
